Every year, from September until early May, barnacle geese
return every year from Norway to winter on the wetlands of the
Solway Firth. Dumfries and Galloway plays host to tens of thousands
of geese: barnacle, pink-footed, greylag, brent and Greenland
white-fronted.
View geese wintering on a trail of roosting sites - Wigtown Bay
LNR, Loch Ryan, NTS Threave, Loch Ken / RSPB Ken-Dee Marshes, RSPB
Mersehead and WWT Caerlaverock with the ‘wild goose chase’.
The graceful red kite has been successfully reintroduced to
Galloway, in an area around Loch Ken. The Galloway Red Kite Trail
