Experience winter white nature close up

Take a sled-dog safari and see the best of the Cairngorms National Park topped with a dusting of snow.

Situated in Aviemore, at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountain Range, The Cairngorm Sleddog Centre offers a wide range of activities, from kennel and museum tours to sled-dog trips and safaris. Meet the dogs before getting comfortable on a Sleddog buggy, where you will enjoy spectacular views of the Cairngorm Mountains. Or travel at night by floodlight and spot herds of red deer roaming in the wild.

See the flash of a red kite’s plumage as these magnificent birds feed at the Brahan Estate near Dingwall, just north of Inverness. A visit in the winter months will often reward bird-watchers with great views, as the red kites are keen to take advantage of feeding opportunities. The purpose-built viewing facility at Tollie is new this winter, so be amongst the first to see it.

For woodland birds, take the Hill 99 trail at Culbin. The gentle climb up Culbin’s highest hill will provide wonderful panoramas over the Moray Firth. Hill 99, a towering wooden structure, provides an excellent viewpoint where the winter wildlife can be spotted amongst the trees.

This is a beautiful winter white walk, with bird song to be heard everywhere.
