Discover these little white gems in Scotland's gardens

Various stately homes, castles and estates throughout Scotland are opening their gates to the public this winter.

Their beautiful grandeur is enhanced by expansive gardens and grounds, perfect for a winter wander when the landscape is dusted in white snow.

Tread carefully and keep your eyes peeled for snowdrops, little winter gems that surface towards the end of the season when hopes of spring are in the air.

These small white flowers are celebrated at the Scottish Snowdrop Festival with sites to explore in both city and rural locations. Delicate yet hardy they are able to thrive in this cold climate.

Breathe in the fresh air and embrace winter while discovering special historic treasures this year.

The festival runs from 1 February to 15 March 2010.
